Matthew 15:18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these things defile him.

Is it possible that our own beliefs, and the words we speak, are the only things limiting us?

I’ve heard it said that people who say they can, and people who say they can’t, are both right. If you truly believe you have no power and that you are a victim to circumstances or other people, then you have already given your power away. Your brain is always looking for evidence of what it already believes. If you constantly see life through the lens of rejection, then everywhere you look you will experience rejection.

I remember when God set me free from years of depression, suicidal thoughts, rejection, and woundings. It was so liberating. I had never experienced such freedom. Yet I learned that it is easy to be set free but a whole new battle to learn to walk free. You may have lived in prison so long that when someone opens the door you don’t know how to live a different way.

Ask God to show you if there is a belief system that is holding you in bondage. It is usually a lie you are believing, possibly based on a childhood wound. Ask God if there is someone you need to forgive and then send the anger and resentment away. Then ask Him what the truth is. It is only when you receive truth to replace the lie that you can truly see things differently. You have been walking this way for so long that it will take diligent effort to build new beliefs and habits. You probably never realized that you were building your own prison walls but with intentionality you can walk free and experience a brand new future.

As a single foot

Will not make a path on the earth,

So a single thought

Will not make a pathway in the mind.

To make a deep physical path,

We walk again and again.

To make a deep mental path,

We must think over and over

The kind of thoughts

We wish to dominate our lives.
