“God conceals the revelation of his word in the hiding place of his glory. But the honor of kings is revealed by how they thoroughly search out the deeper meaning of all that God says.”

Proverbs 25:2 [The Passion Translation]

Often we come across a jewel in scripture that really impacts our life. It could be a revelation of spiritual truth on any number of topics—worship, how to see others as God sees them, a facet of God’s character, or insight about your own identity.

Sometimes we stop there and are satisfied with what we have learned, never realizing there may be a deeper meaning unless we take the time and effort to dig a little more.

For example, in contemplating the deeper meaning of worship, I thought about how it all comes down to a love relationship and the intimate exchange between you and the one you love. Then I thought about the idea of “digging for gold” in other people— believing in someone even when they don’t believe in themselves. Every person has dirt, and they usually know what it is without us pointing it out.

But God created them in His image, with a unique call and purpose. I realized that valuing people as God does comes down to seeing them with eyes of love. Just as I Corinthians 13 teaches, love should be the driving motivation for all we say and do.

As Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17, my prayer for you is that “the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him.”
